What is Medication-Assisted Treatment?
Medication-assisted treatment is a comprehensive, evidence-based approach to treating substance abuse disorders (SUDs), including opioid use disorder, using FDA-approved medications in combination with behavioral and counseling therapies. MAT provides a safe and controlled level of medication that can provide relief from withdrawal symptoms and psychological cravings while helping patients overcome opioid addiction or abuse.
